Synopsis

Original stories set in the worlds of iconic video games are featured in this animated anthology series. Video games have made the leap to the screen, and we’re celebrating the genre by taking a closer look at more than 50 video game adaptations into films and TV series. Clive Standen reprises his role as the voice of Demetrius Titus, the main character from the Space Marine 2 video game.

Aside from a few interesting episodes, Secret Level feels like a monument to mediocrity. The writing is painfully average, dragging the entire show down despite the undeniably stunning visuals, even if even those look like reheated leftovers from a decade’s worth of superior video game footage. Honestly, what is this show trying to do or say that hasn’t been done (and done better) by video game marketing over the last 10 years?

Spoiler alert: it didn’t

The list of titles is staggering. Where are the big names? The lack of big shots says one thing: the developers either didn’t want to be a part of this disaster or were waiting to see if the first season could make it.

What should have been concise, impactful, and memorable feels disjointed and uninspired. Variety called it a “trivial snoozer,” and for once, Variety wasn’t harsh enough. Secret Level proves that flashy visuals can’t hide a lack of vision, heart, or originality!
